Grub, Moss, & Weed Control

Benefits

Removing grubs, moss, and weeds is essential for lawn health, addressing specific threats to vitality and appearance:

  • Grub Control: Prevents root destruction and avoids secondary animal damage (digging) by eliminating a primary food source, maintaining turf stability.
  • Moss Removal: Eliminates competition for light and nutrients, revealing underlying soil issues (like poor drainage or acidity), and allows healthy grass to fill gaps.
  • Weed Control: Reduces resource competition for water, sunlight, and nutrients, prevents rapid spreading, and significantly enhances the lawn's uniform appearance and health.
  • Overall, management of these issues is crucial for creating a resilient, healthy, and vibrant green lawn.
Process

1) Inspect the lawn

  • Examine your lawn for signs of pests or unwanted growth:
  • Grubs: brown patches that lift easily or attract birds and raccoons.
  • Moss: damp, shaded areas with poor drainage or acidic soil.
  • Weeds: broadleaf or grassy varieties competing with turf for nutrients.

2) Identify the problem

  • Determine the main cause — soil pH, moisture level, compaction, or pest infestation.
  • Proper identification ensures the right treatment method and prevents recurrence.

3) Select treatment method

  • Grubs: Apply a grub control product suited for the season (preventive or curative). Water deeply after application.
  • Moss: Improve drainage, increase sunlight exposure, and apply a moss control product if needed. Lime the soil if pH is too low.
  • Weeds: Spot-treat or blanket-apply selective herbicide based on weed type, or pull weeds manually for small areas.

4) Repair and restore

  • Reseed bare spots caused by grub or weed damage once treatment is complete.
  • Fertilize and water regularly to encourage healthy regrowth and crowd out future weeds or moss.

5) Prevent future issues

  • Maintain proper mowing height, improve drainage, and aerate annually to strengthen root systems.
  • Apply pre-emergent weed control in spring and maintain balanced soil pH to discourage moss and pests.
